I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
(Romans 12:1-2) Having transformed lives in Jesus Christ begins with the process of the renewal of our minds. The problem with the human mind is not that we do not have access to the information we need, neither is it a problem of a lack of capacity in our minds. Rather, the problem lies in the fallen and sinful state of our minds that is set against God. The renewal of our minds is thus a key pursuit of the Christian - we root out every thought that is not captive to obeying Christ, and replace it with a new mindset that honours Him. Here at RENEWING CONFERENCE, we hope that fellow believers can come together to spur each other to renew our minds based on God’s word, and share in witnessing the true transformation that the gospel brings. |
2019 Theme: Pastoral Theology in Ephesians
INTRODUCTION |
|
Ephesians is about the Triune God and the people that he has created. God has raised us up with Christ and as a result we are seated with Him in the heavenly places. But this is not just some lofty idea. As heavenly minded Paul is when penning this letter, he is simultaneously down to earth. Our union with God’s Son produces a transformation so great that it affects believers not just as individuals but also as a corporate body.
Paul’s primary purpose in Ephesians is to teach us about the church; namely the body of Christ as expressed in its local setting. he shows us concrete and highly practical ways to live out our corporate calling to live in love. He shows us the basis, the means and the methods to those ends which he has purposed for us from eternity. Yes, the practical corporate Christian life, is nothing short of God’s eternal purpose for those whom he has called out of darkness into the light. Following our theme this year, the plenary sessions seek to highlight how areas such as work, family, worship and speech are severely impacted by God’s purposes and what we are created to be. And how it is also the church leaders responsibility to drive and support a church environment that support our calling to live in a manner worthy of the gospel – a manner worthy of Christ. |
